FREE Online Course on CCSS and ELLs

Interested in learning more about the role language plays in the Common Core State Standards?
Are you currently teaching ELLs or have access to a classroom with ELLs?
Do you have two hours to spare for the next seven weeks?

If you answered yes to all three of these questions, then you may want to consider taking a free online course from Stanford University this fall. It is called Constructive Classroom Converstaions: Mastering Language for the Common Core State Standards. The class will be taught by Kenji Hakuta, Jeff Zwiers (who presented last week at the National WIDA Conference!) and Sara Rutherford-Quach. Participants will learn more about the role that language plays in the Common Core State Standards. They will explore the characteristics of quality student to student discourse that ultimately builds students' academic knowledge. They will also learn some strategies for making classroom conversations more productive for students. For more information or to sign up, click here.

Special thanks to Desiree from Illinois for telling me about this course!

  1. Sounds like a very interesting course, and it could be well worth investing two hours a week for the next seven weeks.
